Forget it. Get a new drive and install Win7 to it (still a free download). If you try to migrate most of your work to a browser, then getting up and running will be about as easy as installing the OS itself. i.e., you won't need to install a lot of programs to get back online. Note that Win7 will expire and presumably there will be no upgrade path (you'll have to format and install clean).
Note that most apps in WinXP/Vista do NOT need to be re-installed to work properly. Just copy over the old folder and make shortcuts. Sometimes installing fresh is less hassle though.
