I haven't used it that way yet ...as an authorized relay but I guess that's what I am considering.

Before doing so, I am researching possible issues that might arise if I was to set up a Gmail IMAP account that would have several email addresses forwarded to it.

One of them would be from a domain name account (the domain's mail would be forwarded directly to the Gmail account and that account would be set to send mail as that domain address).

Another which would be an ATT account... and the ability to send from ATT as the ATT account would also be necessary.

In neither case would a "on behalf of [email protected]" footer be desirable (Is that a mandatory Gmail thing?).

Because re-routing the domain name of an email account is involved, I can't just easily experiment with it to see how it works and am asking the list instead.

I was thinking of using an IMAP email client with such a setup where Gmail is acting as the email server... but as was pointed out... a local client isn't necessary.

An ability to send from the different accounts

As I understand it, you're using Gmail as an authorized relay. It will also
insert "on behalf of [email protected]" into the sending header to keep it
kosher. At least that what Gmail did for me when I was using the gmail SMTP
server for my Treo, back in the day.
