For example, such people think that getting a pay-day loan is a great way to buy what they want. They get instant gratification and the future does not enter into their calculation. After all money is money and money now is of course better than the pain of saving for things.

Crummy PC hardware, like M$ promotes through its advertising (Laptop Hunters, etc.) is just like pay-day loans. You pay every day through reduced productivity and you pay when its end-of-life comes much sooner than it would with good hardware.

You call it frugal, I call it profligate.
