The current head of the Chamber, Thomas Donahue, who has held that position since about 1999 if I am not mistaken, has taken the Chamber much more in a far-right direction than it has ever been before. He is a right-wing ideologue who seems more interested in pushing Glenn Beck-type concepts and arguments than in actually representing the basic positions of businesses and industries in an evolving operating environment. Indeed, Mr. Donohue has been the subject of numerous appearances on interview programs specifically because of his rather extreme views that increasingly appear to be at odds with more modern thinking. His ability to remain at the helm of the Chamber is mostly related to his ability to raise lots of money, a fact that he does not deny. However, with events catching up with him as they currently are, and with an increasing number of major corporations either leaving the Chamber or expressing their dissatisfaction with Chamber leadership, his days may be numbered. At any rate, a tip of the hat to Apple and others who want a Chamber that has leaders who realize we are no longer in the 19th century.
