No it is not an Aprils Fool joke and of course it is a little more
complicated than the media makes it out,
There are layers you must go through to add encryption and make it
work with equipment.
One thing the military suffers under is competing services (three
main branches plus Marines) that all procure equipment through
separate channels.
Plus the encryption has to be backwards compatible with different
types of equipment.
I am not forgiving the military for not getting this done, but it is
not as simple as it is made out to be.
They have known about this for a decade and in that time it should
have been solved.
Maybe all those Retired Generals living off the public/private nickel
could donate some of their pensions to getting it solved instead of
popping up on TV and spouting off.
They are the ones who failed to get it fixed before they took their
pensions so donate some of it back and fix it.
