You are right. They don't buy or want them for their sound quality. They want them because they are trendy bling. The fact that iPods are made by Apple is of no consequence to them. Chances are, a lot of these youngsters who have an iPod are not even aware that Apple makes it. There are a lot of folks, even some who are over thirty, who cannot tell me what brand of digital camera they have without taking it out and looking at it. This is in spite of the fact that they are forever taking pictures with it and showing them off to their friends. Back in the day of film, it was virtually impossible that camera users not to know what kind of camera they had. I think that consumers are so completely flooded with choices these days, and are also so frightened by everything digital, that they no longer feel as though they can make their own decisions, so they just get whatever is there as long as it basically works. Consumers are cowed as never before.
