The iPad is, to the best of my knowledge, lacking in stylus support.
I have read that this pretty much rules out the device for drawing
purposes. Perhaps the use of the tablet as a platform for such
artistic use was never on the radar at Apple.
YES, you CAN do that on an iPhone/Touch. iPad too? Probably. Don't need
a stylus. I'd lose a stylus, and don't plan to lose my fingers any time
soon.
Maybe no stylus support, but you can do multitouch fingerpainting on an
iPhone/Touch, free app, http://www.mike-tedesco.com/apps/ -- not just
for 4-year-olds either. When you're done with a painting, take a
screenshot to save it, then shake to clear the screen for a new picture!
I've seen artists create some beautiful pictures with apps like this.
