The segfault isn't happy either - is it always doing that?

I don't imagine you'll be able to fix this with concordance, unfortunately,
though I would like to see a 'cat /proc/bus/usb/devices' and better understand
why we can't see the device when it's in safemode...

As a side note, even in Windows, fixing remotes in this mode can be a bit
tricky... you'll have to muck around in the options to find the "firmware
upgrade" option, and then it'll tell you don't need it and you have to tell it
you want one anyway...
