Need more detailed information than 'does not interact well'.. Are you
using the most up-to-date version of the code?

The latest version from the wiki (http://conkeror.org/Tips#Auto- hidetheMinibuffer)
fixes the problem.

(The problem was that when mode-line-mode was invoked,
something happened to the key bindings, e.g., f, C-x C-c, etc.
did not function.)

So I'm happily running with neither minibuffer or mode line in
most circumstances. I have mode-line-mode bound to C-l so I
can easily toggle it.

Working in this mode, I see that there are many messages
printed to the minibuffer that I'd rather not see. For
example, if I invoke C-l (mode-line-mode) I don't need to
see that the mode line has been disabled, and if I hit +
to increase the font size I can already see that the font
size has been increased, without needing the minibuffer
to pop up and tell me that. It would be nice to have
different classes of messages and a filter; I can see
that this would be a pretty invasive change, however.
