Jack Diggins, in his short book on the Adams presidency (and his political thought in general), vigorously disputes the charge that Adams was a "monarchist."  Hamilton is another matter, though I don't think there is any evidence that he favored hereditary succession.  I do believe, though, that he favored very long terms for presidents, which certainly approaches the monarchical principle.
