The Conservation Scientist is part of a team of conservation professionals
responsible for the preservation of The National Archives' physical collection
through providing the evidence required for decision making. The aim of this

deliver heritage science projects, in order to enhance our understanding and
preservation of our collection. This will be achieved in close collaboration
with the Head of Conservation Research and Development by increasing our
capacity to be involved in collaborative research projects. You will take the
lead as required, working together with colleagues across the organisation as
well as external partners and stakeholders.

You will have extensive knowledge of conservation practice, and a specialism in
heritage science research, bringing technical, analytical and methodological
skills to develop innovative solutions for the care and conservation of a large
archival collection. As a clear communicator you will be effective at
disseminating your work to specialist and non-specialist audiences and will
bring the highest professional standards in conservation and research to the
role.

You will take a full role in the ongoing development of collection care within
The National Archives by actively engaging in data collecting, knowledge
sharing, teaching and mentoring others, planning, organizing and delivering
research projects and actively promoting the work of the department across The
