The Preservation Statistics Survey is a project to document and analyze the preservation activities of cultural heritage institutions in the United States. The Preservation Statistics Survey is an effort coordinated by the Preservation and Reformatting Section (PARS) of the American Library Association (ALA) and the Association of Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS). For more information, visit the Preservation Statistics website: http://www.ala.org/alcts/resources/preservation/presstats <http://www.ala.org/alcts/resources/preservation/presstats> Sixty-nine institutions participated in the FY2015 Preservation Statistics Survey, facilitating the analysis of preservation activities for fiscal year 2015 and the evaluation of trends in conservation, collection assessment and digitization / exhibit prep, general preservation activities, reformatting / digitization, and digital preservation activities. This year, with the assistance of guest curator Joshua Ranger, we focus on trends in audiovisual preservation and digitization, examining in-house vs. outsourced activities and how project- and grant-based activities have impacted audiovisual conservation and digitization production levels over the past four years of this Survey project. Over the past four years, we’ve taken great pride in releasing a timely survey report in the months immediately following the close of the survey period; this year, due in part to moves, new jobs with new areas of focus, and wonderful life events like new marriages, we were not able to meet that goal. Couple these major life changes with the low participation in the FY2015 Survey, and we feel we must reconcile the community’s interest in continuing this effort against the many hours required to sustain the Survey project. At this time, we are not prepared to issue the FY2016 Survey in January 2017, and we are actively seeking new stewardship for the Preservation Statistics project. Thanks to all who participated in and supported this project, Annie Peterson - Preservation Services Librarian, Lyrasis Holly Robertson - Exhibits Coordinator, University of Virginia Library Nick Szydlowski - Digital Initiatives and Scholarly Communication Librarian, Boston College Law Library ****** Unsubscribe by sending a message to [email protected] Archives through August 2016 at http://cool.conservation-us.org/byform/mailing-lists/cdl/ Archives from September 2016 onward at https://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/
