Call for Papers: First Aid for Finds
We would like to invite submissions for papers for the 23rd European
Association of Archaeologists conference in Maastricht, the Netherlands, 30
August - 3 September 2017, for the following session: “First Aid for Finds:
archaeological conservation in the 3rd Science Revolution”.

Session Abstract
The Institute of Conservation Archaeology Group (ICON-AG) and RESCUE (the
British Archaeological Trust) are preparing to publish a new edition of the
popular but now out-of-print handbook, "First Aid for Finds", by 2018/19.
ICON-AG committee propose in this EAA 2017 session to review the chapters
as they stand, and to allow archaeologists, conservators and conservation
scientists to contribute, so that the publication can better represent a
consensus on conservation practice in the field at the time of excavation,
finds processing and deposit of the site archive. This "6 minute/6 slide"
discussion session will be an opportunity to present up-to-date field
practice in archaeological conservation and materials science. We will
explore the potential, in this age of the ‘Internet of Things’ and the
‘Third Science Revolution’ in Archaeology, for the condition of
archaeological objects to be monitored from the time of extraction from
their stable burial environment, through many years deposition in archives
that might no longer employ full-time archaeological conservators.

Please submit your proposed abstract here, before the closing date on 15
March 2017: https://www.klinkhamergroup.com/eaa2017/sessions/overview/
