I’d like to ask some advice on reducing the static charge of the sheet surface of Acrylic/Perspex/Plexiglas for conservation framing of works of art on paper, especially float (non-window) mounted posters, maps etc. Despite considerable size fillets/spacers, items tend to bulge towards or touch the surface of the acrylic, even with the highest quality anti-static (coated) acrylic. And so the common technique is to add tabs of Japanese paper to the middle. My aim however is to reduce the amount of tabs needed in line with current best practice standards and minimal intervention. I’d like to know which antistatic compounds you use to reduce the static electricity of acrylic or if you use alternative mounting methods. I’ve tried several brands of anti-static cleaner, wiping the surface with ethanol using a microfiber cloth, a Milty Zerostat 3 anti-static gun and leaving the sheet (protective foil removed) exposed for a few days. But I’ve found that those have a temporary effect at best.
