I am using this medium to seek advice on buying a freezer for our paper-based collections as way of treating insect infestation (insects as silverfish, cockroaches, bugs etc.) We are a small library in Jamaica and as one would imagine faced with serious challenges as it relates to mold and insect infestation in the tropics. Our current method is to treat incoming collections, and material infested with a chemical called book poison. However, we are moving away from this type of treatment to non-chemical treatment as we are fully aware of the damage that can happen to staff working with this chemical and the harm it can have on the materials. I am therefore seeking help in identifying what criteria we should have in mind when purchasing a chest freezer in Jamaica, that can aid in our Insect Pest Management implementation.
