Dear Colleagues,

I work at the moment at the collection of artecafts from an archaeological site which have been kept in storage for a long, long time - among the finds I have come across some organic materials (fragments of textiles and wooden rosary beads) which were stored in the solutions that I identified as possibly naphta and something that resembles mineral oil respectively. I am aware that the finds are probably beyond salvation at this stage, but I hope that maybe there is some way of reversing the damage? I am afraid that upon drying the textiles will be terribly brittle...the beads in oil seem fine, although I am not sure about their dimensional stability once air-dried - the colour change is permament I am afraid... Is there anything that you could advise me on doing to limit the damage? I am a bit clueless I am afraid as it is the first time I have come across such storage method.
Will be grateful for any suggestions:).
