POSTGRADUATE FELLOW IN PAPER CONSERVATION, The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation 
(Williamsburg, VA, USA)

 Full-time: 37.5 hours/week, Monday - Friday

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation offers a full-time, one 
year fellowship, with the possibility of renewal, for the conservation of 
library and archive materials. The fellow will be responsible for the care and 
treatment of objects in the John D. Rockefeller Jr. Research Library Special 
Collections and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation Corporate Archive. Special 
Collections material includes 18th-century issues of the Virginia Gazette which 
document the transition of Virginia from colony to state and the founding of 
the United States of America; correspondence between multiple period political 
figures; regional playbills; numerous household inventories; and rare books. 
The Corporate Archives include 20th Century scrapbooks, photographs and paper 
materials related to the establishment and history of the Foundation.

PRIMARY TASKS: Under the guidance of the Senior Paper Conservator, the fellow 
will undertake tasks to include conducting surveys, examination, appropriate 
research and analysis, documentation, designing and implementing treatments, 
re-housing and formulating recommendations for optimal preservation. The fellow 
will assist in maintaining the workspace and ordering supplies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates will have a Master’s degree in conservation 
and a minimum of 3 years of experience, including educational experience, with 
works on paper. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent skills in 
verbal and written communication, critical thinking and problem solving, 
time-management and organization.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Digital photography and photo editing competency. 
Specialized training and experience with library and archive materials, and 
photographs.
