Preventive Conservator Full time, established Kensington Palace Historic Royal Palaces is the charity that looks after the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace, the Banqueting House Whitehall, Kew Palace and Hillsborough Castle in Northern Ireland. The key responsibilities of this role will be to carry out hands-on collection care and safeguarding routines, including cleaning the collection and protecting it during education, creative and commercial events. In addition, you will be a member of the team responsible for environmental monitoring and analysis, pest control management, condition auditing exhibition work, salvage & recovery. This role also includes regularly explaining our conservation work to the public. We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic individual who can remain calm under pressure whilst managing the risks to our buildings and collections during events. You will have a recognised conservation qualification or equivalent and will have worked as part of a project team on the delivery of an exhibition. Teamwork is essential and an ability to deliver assignments to exhibition delivery deadlines, including lifting and moving objects and working at heights. This position will be based at Kensington Palace; however there will also be a requirement to work regularly at the Tower of London and the Banqueting House, Whitehall and less frequently at Hillsborough Castle, Hampton Court and Kew Palaces. Additionally, hours of work may include early mornings, evenings and a maximum of 12 weekend days during the year. The ability to work at heights is essential.
