The University of Manchester Library - 0.5FTE Conservator post, to support the
John Rylands Research Institute (JRRI).

The post is funded until 31/07/2018 in the first instance

The University of Manchester Library is one of only five National Research
Libraries and the third largest academic library in the UK. It is one of the
largest academic library services in the country, catering for the needs of
some 36,000 students and researchers, as well as academic staff. The University
Library possesses 4 million printed items, one million microfilms, over 41,000
electronic journals, 500,000 eBooks and a large number of databases. While our
primary objective is to meet the learning, teaching and research needs of
University members, we are also fully committed to widening access to our
services to individual researchers, local schools and others in the regional
community.

The Collection Care Department is recruiting a 0.5FTE Conservator to support
the work of the John Rylands Research Institute. The successful candidate will
work as part of the team alongside fellows, scholars and curators making
collections safe for access and supporting material research on the collections
themselves.

The Collection Care team, as part of the Content, Collections and Discovery
division, is responsible for the Conservation and Preservation of all Library
Collections across multiple sites.

This role will be based primarily at the John Rylands Library, which holds
numerous world-renowned manuscripts, archives and printed books, but may also
include working across other Library sites.

The Conservator will be expected to contribute to all other Collection Care
activities as necessary.

It is envisaged working days will include Mondays and Fridays but actual days
and hours will be by agreement with the successful candidate.

The successful candidate will be a qualified book or paper conservator. You
will have a strong team ethic, proven craft skills, excellent communication
skills and be able to work independently and unsupervised across a wide range
of Collection Care duties, whilst adhering to strict deadlines.
