Dear List Members,

We have been informed by the manufacturer of Plextol B-500, Synthomer, that
they are now imposing a 11,000 pound (5000 kg) minimum order, where as
previously we had to only buy a drum or two at a time. This makes buying
the product impossible for us, and we are very concerned about loosing this
important product for the conservation market.

My questions are as follows:

1) Does anyone know of other comparable materials that are currently in
use or available as a replacement? Often times products of almost exact
specification (in this case an acrylic dispersion) are available from
competing chemical manufacturers.

2) For those who are very familiar with the Plextol B-500 and its
properties that make it desirable for specific conservation practices,
would you be willing to work with us to define the specific criteria to
look for in alternate products and ultimately test them for suitability?
