The National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design is Norway's largest museum. 
The textile collection
consists of ca. 18 000 objects from medieval tapestries to contemporary 
fashion. In 2019 the museum will move
from 3 different locations to a new museum building in the centre of Oslo, with 
excellent new conservation
facilities. The new museum building will open to the public in 2020.

Textile conservation
Two permanent positions as textile conservator in the National Museum will be 
vacant this coming year due to
retirement. We wish for the new employees to be able to start as soon as 
possible, to have an overlapping period
with the current staff.

The textile conservator is responsible for the care and preservation of the 
museum's collection of textiles; she/he
will undertake conservation/restoration treatments, document conservation work, 
conduct and publish research
into the collection and monitor the collections environment.

Responsibilities
* Documentation of the textile collection, condition reports and treatment 
proposals
* Practical conservation/restoration work of the highest standard
* Participating in developing preventive conservation strategies for the museum
* Professional collaboration with relevant institutions worldwide
* Continual personal development, participation in seminar/conferences 
nationally and internationally, learning
and using new software
* Accompanying art works as a courier, nationally and internationally
* Consultant services for the public, as well as artists and colleagues
* Supervising students on placement
* Participating in daily tasks in the museum
* Other tasks as agreed with your head of department

Qualifications
* MA or equivalent in textile conservation
* Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience after MA, according to ECCO's 
professional guidelines

Personal qualities
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Good team work abilities
* Flexibility
* Learning Norwegian within a sensible time frame is necessary
