The Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum is seeking a qualified individual for the 
position of Conservator.
The Conservator manages the Conservation Laboratory and projects. The 
Conservator is responsible for providing conservation consultation, 
examination, survey, and treatment services for provision of conservation 
service.
Responsibilities Include:

 *   Examines materials to determine their condition and provides proposals 
with cost estimates for provision of conservation service. As needed in 
treatments, researches artists' techniques and interprets scientific analysis 
of materials.
 *   Prepares written reports and/or photographs to document the condition of 
objects before, during, and after treatment.
 *   Provides stabilization and conservation treatment with respect for the 
integrity of the artifact and intent of the artist.
 *   Surveys collections and evaluates environmental conditions to provide 
recommendations for proper and safe storage and exhibition. Provides assistance 
with conservation planning. Manages the IPM program for exhibit spaces and 
coordinates IPM activities with Collections Managers across the Museum.
 *   May plan, research, and manage large grant or contract-funded conservation 
projects.
 *   May supervise interns and/or volunteers to instruct and ensure quality 
work is performed in a timely and efficient manner.
 *   Determines the advisability of transporting objects, provides information 
on proper packing, and/or supervises or carries out the packing.
 *   Answers inquiries, lectures, and participates in workshops to educate 
museum professionals and the general public in basic conservation principles.
 *   Interacts with staff and museum clients with tact, courtesy and respect. 
Projects a positive and professional attitude. Cooperates and supports 
teamwork; maintains and strengthens customer relations.
 *   Performs other duties as necessary to accomplish Museum goals.
Qualifications

 *   Master's degree in conservation from an accredited conservation training 
program.
 *    1-5 years experience as a practicing conservator, or equivalent training 
and experience.
 *    Ability to communicate clearly in English.
 *   Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to work 
effectively as part of a team.
 *   Ability to maintain composure when working under time constraints and to 
meet deadlines.
Hours: Full-time, some evening and weekends required
Salary: $42,000/year
