I am a PhD student at the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Science and Engineering in Arts, Heritage and Archaeology (SEAHA), UCL (London, UK), researching the presence of mould in historic materials at National Trust properties. Focusing on libraries, and materials such as paper and leather, I am exploring alternative preventive measures for the occurrence of mould infestations.
I would like to know questions people might have regarding mould and mould issues to inform and better shape future applications of my research into practical conservation, such as guidelines on the use of ventilation to prevent mould. Questions can be incredibly basic and general or more complex and related to your work experience and work place (e.g. “what IS mould after all?!”, “Does it grow on glass?” or "What are the most common species affecting heritage?”). Your questions and suggestions will be used for two purposes: Firstly, I would like to use them for inspiration for a series of short articles on mould related issues and heritage. Secondly, they will help me shape my research to better contribute to practical preventive conservation. The questions you provide will be used without mentioning your names or institutions, only as background information for my research and short articles. Please send me your thoughts and questions regarding mould! Thank you!
