Preservation Specialist (Archaeological Cultural Heritage), Smithsonian’s Museum Conservation Institute. The Smithsonian’s Museum Conservation Institute (MCI) is seeking a Preservation Specialist with a specialization in archaeological cultural heritage. The Preservation Specialist will support the Smithsonian’s long-term goals in preservation and recovery of cultural heritage endangered by disaster, climate and environmental changes, human conflict, and international trafficking through innovative scholarly and scientific research in archaeology. The successful candidate will serve as a consultant and expert advisor in their areas of expertise to support strategic partnerships with governmental, academic and intergovernmental organizations. They will also serve as a key researcher in Smithsonian’s projects to preserve and protect cultural heritage in crisis situations. The successful candidate will support SI commitment to capacity building in cultural heritage protection with the Iraqi Institute for the Conservation of Antiquities and Heritage and other educational venues. The successful candidate will have an earned PhD in archaeology or closely related field or equivalent and extensive experience in research, professional presentation, and publication.
The position is a 5-year trust position to be hired at pay scale equivalent to GS – 12/01 with a salary of $81,548 including a locality payment for the DC area.
