In August last year our brand new, purpose built conservation studios opened as part of the Prince Philip Maritime Collections Centre in Kidbrooke. This new facility not only improves our conservation but also adds a new public engagement component to our practice. The Conservation Department at RMG are responsible for providing high quality and proactive care of collections in a cost effective way. The department are looking for a passionate and driven individual to lead their team in Kidbrooke who are responsible for five core disciplines; Paper, Objects, Frames, Paintings and Textiles. In addition, using your knowledge of historic building conservation, providing advice to the Estates team on historic buildings and interiors will be a key part of your role. As part of the Senior Management Team, you will provide strategic leadership to help drive and implement conservation strategies, develop training of staff and volunteers, and prioritise and align programmes to support Corporate Objectives, ensuring the museum retains its leader-in-the-field status. As well as leading your team, you will also take the lead on emergency planning and preventive conservation across the entire organisation, ensuring the museum is well prepared and equipped to deal with any potential emergency situation that arises. With a degree level qualification in the heritage sector and senior management experience, you will have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, which you can use alongside your knowledge of conversation and emergency planning and management. Good organisational skills and being financially literate and experienced in managing budgets is essential, along with being a conscientious and self-motivated individual with strong team player traits.
