Background This is an exciting opportunity for a conservation post-graduate specialising in library and archive materials to gain working experience of a national archive; including complex preservation projects, preservation housing and practical conservation work. The Role The role will be focused around preparing and maintaining collections for: handling during reader usage and digitisation, packing and storage, transit, exhibition preparation (including install/de-installation and display), condition surveying as well as preservation housing. Under the guidance of the Book Conservator, Conservation Studio Manager and colleagues, the post holder will undertake practical conservation treatment to stabilise books and paper archive items. They will also work closely with the AAP Pack and Track project spending time cleaning and boxing collections as well as assisting in developing a strategy for packing at-risk archive items. * Proven conservation skills or high-quality practical and creative hands-on experience, working with library and archive materials * A clear understanding and appreciation of the history behind the creation and development of archive and library collections * An understanding of materials science, including modes of deterioration in library and archive collections * A willingness to learn and update knowledge and skills through research and training * Proven ability to use your own initiative and to work as part of a team on special projects or routine tasks.
