CELEBRATING REPRODUCTIONS in plaster, metal and digitally: CONFERENCE
2019-Victoria and Albert Museum, London, UK, January 17th-18th-19th

The Victoria and Albert Museum will be celebrating the re-opening of the second
Cast Court and a new interpretation Gallery after extensive renovations by
hosting a three day conference on Thursday 17, Friday 18 and Saturday 19
January 2019.

The first two days will include subjects on the functions and fates of historic
collections, the uses and nature of reproductions now and in the past -
including photography and digital media, as well as plaster casts and
electrotypes.

The third day will draw from the direct working experience of practitioners
using conservation, analytical techniques or craft skills to further an
understanding of the material, behaviour and deterioration processes of plaster
casts and electrotypes. There will be a conservation focus around the
'deterioration processes' impacting on plaster to include soiling, fire damage,
water damage, salt activity, corrosion of armatures and fixings, thermal
cracking and environmental impacts.
