The Conservation Department of the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) in Kuala Lumpur is pleased to offer a one-year position for a wooden objects conservator or a paintings conservator with experience in the treatment of frames. Primary responsibilities: · Carrying out conservation work on historic and contemporary frames and wooden artifacts or paintings. · Contributing to and working on the physical well being of the wood-based and wood-related objects of the collection. · Contributing to the processes involved in pest control; packing and shipping; the control of temperature, relative humidity and light; the design and mounting of exhibitions; and the improvement of storage condition. · Assisting in and/or conducting any training program and/or educational activities related to conservation and restoration of artifacts; with specific focus on wood or paintings conservation. · Working on, and involved in, the processes of documentation of artifacts. · Involvement in supervision work on wood conservation carried out by other staff & junior conservators. The full-time position is available from September 2018. The applicant should be a graduate of a recognized conservation training program or have equivalent training. Fluency in English language and demonstrated visual, manual, research, documentation, and writing abilities are required. Closing date for applications is 19 August 2018.
