The Archives and Records Association, the lead professional body for archivists, archive conservators and records managers in the United Kingdom and Ireland , are delighted to announce the opening of nominations for New Professional of the Year Award. ‘Outstanding Commitment’ This award is intended to recognise new professionals in the early stages of their career who have made an outstanding contribution to conservation or record keeping in the last 12 months (ie, for 2018, evidence of an outstanding contribution made in 2017 and up to the spring of 2018). ‘Outstanding contribution’ means one (or both) of the following: * A direct and positive influence on the workplace, either as a volunteer or a professional at the start of their career. Examples could include (but are not limited to) delivery of a specific project, an innovation or changes to policy and process. * An outstanding contribution to the conservation or record keeping as a whole, such as (but not limited to) advocacy and activism, a sector-related project, people development or innovative academic and practical workplace research. The award is open to any ARA member who is a member of the Section for New Professionals. For more information on becoming a member of the Section please email [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Nominations should be made by an established professional working in the conservation sector. It should be noted that ‘self-nominating’ is not available for this award. Process Nominations should be made in the form of a brief statement (no more than one page) explaining how the nominee has demonstrated the criteria described above. These should be sent to [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>. Once the nomination has been accepted the Section will contact the nominator to confirm. The nominations will be considered by a judging panel comprising members of the ARA board, and Section for New Professional committee members. We will announce the winner in September and present the award at the Section's autumn event in October. The travel expenses for the winner will be covered up to £50. The deadline for nominations is midnight on Thursday, 31 August 2018. This new and exciting award will recognise early career achievements and celebrate the valuable contribution that ARA new professionals make to the record keeping professions, both at a local level within their workplaces, and to the wider sector.
