The Friends of Crystal Palace Dinosaurs, London (a charity with conservation work and outreach as part of its core objectives) are organising a two-day event as part of the national Heritage Open Days on 15-16 September<https://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/visiting/event/dino-days>. We are looking for conservation professionals or students who would be interested in helping us tell the public about why conservation is important. We feel we've got a particularly good vehicle for communicating this message in the Grade 1 historic site we focus on, and also our event will be really fun, with lots of other stuff going on as well. Everyone loves Dinosaurs! If you don't know the CP Dinosaurs, this film of ours gives a bit of an introduction The Lost Valley of London (4.5 minutes) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkPrTh_JFTA&feature=youtu.be We have an excellent track record in conservation outreach events. These have included hands-on workshops for families and behind-the-scenes tours during major works on some of the sculptures. These not only tell the public about conservation, but have provided increased motivation from the council to do work on the site. We also have done well in getting publicity for our site, and hope to build on that with this event. It could be a good opportunity to link in organisations you care about. Would you like to be part of our event on 15 or 16 September? We are just in the planning stages, and would welcome: - giving tours of the Dino islands and explaining a bit about the works recently done, and what more needs to happen - giving a talk on a topic relevant to conservation of our sculptures. Last year we had an excellent one on photogrammetry, digital conservation and monitoring conservation issues of the Standing Iguanodon, for instance. - being on hand to explain conservation in the films, and on our information and photo board - any other suggestions you have would also be welcome! We have a number of other things planned for the days including: - street theatre (https://emeraldant.com/author/squinnyoung/ - drawing workshops for kids - talks on history, science, and if you can help, conservation ("brain food" for curious minds) - short films-works by local artists... Please drop us a line if you are interested in being part of this great event! We'd love to have you as part of these great couple of days. We would be grateful if you can forward our request to others who might be able to help as well.
