The Icon Archaeology Group are pleased to announce the call for papers for our 1-day December conference on archaeological objects found by members of the public.
Every year thousands of objects are discovered by metal-detector users, field-walkers, people out walking, gardening or just going about their daily work. These finds are often acquired and displayed by local and national museums with the support of conservators. We welcome papers on all aspects, including: • Case studies of interventive conservation, preventive care, storage, transport and display of finds. • Collaborative working among museums, conservators and metal detectorists. • Ethical challenges. Presenters are invited to give a 25 minute presentation. Contributions by students and emerging professionals are warmly welcomed as are submissions from outside the UK. Please submit your abstract (max. 250 words), together with your professional/academic contact details, to the Archaeology Group [email protected] by 18th September. The conference will include tours of the Museum Collection Centre or Staffordshire Hoard and a chance to catch-up with colleagues at the famous Birmingham Christmas Market. Location: Birmingham Museums Trust. Museum’s Collections Centre Date: Thursday 6th December 2018 We look forward to hearing from you!
