JOB SUMMARY Conservator This position is responsible for managing the conservation lab at the Arizona State Archives building. It proposes, develops, implements and monitors the physical care, conservation and long-term preservation of archival materials in accordance with the American Institute for Conservation code of ethics. It develops and monitors work procedures for the lab, works with staff to establish priorities, and makes treatment decision; carries out appropriate paper conservation techniques, cleans, de-acidifies, mends, reassembles and applies appropriate protective materials to deteriorating documents; works closely with building operations manager to monitor records storage environment and integrated pest management, consults with the Arizona State Library, Arizona Capitol Museum, and other government agencies, participates in training and outreach, and conducts preservation planning, emergency response and environmental control. This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week. LOCATION 1901 W. Madison St. Phoenix, AZ 85009 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Knowledge of: • Knowledge of conservation best practices. • Knowledge of archive best practices. • Knowledge of integrated pest management system best practices.
