Job vacancy - Conservation Manager (Plowden and Smith, London)
Job Specification 1. Work as part of the Conservation Management team reporting to the Senior Conservation Manager. 2. Assist with the day to day running of the conservation labs and main studio space. · Review and edit Conservator’s estimates for conservation treatments · Discuss treatment proposals and treatments on objects with Conservators and the Senior Conservation Manager · Work with the Finance Assistant to manage material and equipment orders, ensuring supply levels of stock are maintained in the building · Keep a record and undertake regular inventories of materials on site 3. Assist Senior Conservation Manager by chairing monthly workshop meetings and completing Conservator’s six-monthly appraisals. · Be available to discuss issues with the Conservators as they arise and feedback to the Senior Conservation Manager – the management is a team and should always be cohesive and apprised of any issues/concerns that may have arisen. 4. Manage/assist with specific conservation projects. 5. Develop and implement a standard operating procedure manual with the Senior Conservation Manager. 6. Prepare and submit tenders with the Senior Conservation Manager, Client Services and the Furniture department. 7. Health and Safety Officer. · Update COSHH reports, risk assessments, solvent inventory and associated paperwork. · Work with conservation departments to ensure Personal Protective Equipment is being used correctly. · Arrange Conservators’ training, for example: PASMA courses, manual handling and first aid training. · Attend health and safety courses and keep up to date with first aid training. · Chair monthly health and safety committee meetings · Prepare for annual health and safety inspection and action areas identified as requiring improvement. 8. In conjunction with the Senior Conservation Manager, lead the sustainability committee, to help identify future activities and disseminate information to all Conservators which will ensure that Plowden & Smith keep sustainability at the forefront of all workplace practice. 9. Support the Senior Conservation Manager by assisting with various marketing tasks and by attending networking events to help raise awareness of Plowden & Smith Ltd in the conservation world. 10. Join Conservators on site, where required, to liaise with clients. 11. Carry out condition reports · Support and training on Articheck and using the iPad system will be given · Check and assess condition reports drafted by Conservators 12. Develop and maintain freelancer staff database. Personal Specification We are seeking a candidate with degree level education in Conservation, Art, Art History or a related subject. It is key that the applicant has a minimum of three years’ experience working in a managerial or operational position and is very well organised and efficient, working well under pressure.
