Call for Papers: AIC 2019 Annual Meeting New Tools and Techniques: Let's talk about gels!
Seeking papers for a session on gels at The American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works May 2019 Annual Meeting to be held in Uncasville, Connecticut. Conservators across specialties frequently utilize chemical and physical gels as well as a myriad of viscosity modifiers in cleaning. Gels have been part of the conservation toolkit for years, but gel cleaning methods and materials continue to evolve. Efforts by cultural heritage professionals to exploit gels? positive features and to limit possible negative consequences has led to ongoing innovation. This session invites papers from conservators and conservation scientists on the theory and practice of gel treatments. Specifically, we encourage submissions related to innovative materials and treatment methodologies for gel cleaning as well as novel uses for gel-based cleaning systems. We welcome papers discussing both the triumphs and challenges in working with gels. Let's talk about gels! Abstract submissions for all calls should be no more than 500 words, with an additional speaker biography of up to 300 words, and are due on or before September 22, 2018.
