Co-presentations by IH/Safety and Conservation/Collection Care professionals



The Washington Conservation Guild, the Potomac Section of the American
Industrial Hygiene Association, the Smithsonian Institution’s Office of
Safety, Health and Environmental Management and the Smithsonian National
Collections Program will once again collaborate with the Lunder
Conservation Center to host a third annual Professional Development Seminar
with the theme of Control of Health and Safety Hazards in Museums, Historic
Sites, Conservation Treatment and Collection Care.

We are offering SAAM tours as part of the day. Please select your tour
after registration.  Tours run concurrently.


1.       Highlights of the Collection - Survey SAAM’s permanent collection
and explore the vast creative heritage of the United States from the
colonial period to the present.

2.       Folk Art - Not all artists go to art school! Investigate the
dynamic and often interesting ways folk and self-taught artists create
their work.

3.       Trevor Paglen "Sites Unseen" - Trevor Paglen blurs the lines
between art, science, and investigative journalism to construct unfamiliar
and at times unsettling ways to see and interpret the world around us.

4.       Conservation Conversation - Go beyond the galleries and explore
how SAAM preserves its collection through the visible Lunder Conservation
Center.

5.       Luce Foundation Center for American Art - Access and fire
protection at SAAM.
