We recently had a member of the public use an 'Explore 5' hand held electronic magnifier to examine works on paper on display. The device looks similar to a smart phone and has two LED lights to illuminate the subject. When questioned by an attendant the visitor was somewhat upset as they had used the device without question at various national institutions. I have not been able to view the device or measure the light output. Has anyone had a similar experience or does their institution have a policy around approved such devices?
