*Call for Papers*
*Sustainable and Efficient: Challenges of Best Practice *
*Student & Emerging Professional Conference*
*West Dean College, Chichester. 10**th** May 2019*
The field of conservation strives to meet the rising challenges of best
practice.
Some of the new challenges include a growing concern for issues of
sustainability and resource management. In a profession that faces a
decrease in economic support, understanding these challenges and some of
the current solutions to them is an important part of our careers. As
conservation students, our goal is to learn best practices of techniques,
process, and analysis with regard to the items in our care. However, we
will transition into a professional world where best practice may now mean
managing the needs of cultural heritage, the environment, and economic
resources.
The aim of this conference is to raise awareness and prepare conservation
students and emerging professionals to adapt to the changing challenges of
best practice.

Abstracts are invited for 30 minute presentations on all aspects relevant
to these issues. Examples of possible topics may include:
- Creative solutions to challenging situations: “shoe-string”
budgets, material/housing/staff limitations
- Current practice vs best practice: future concerns that have not
yet been solved
- Relevance and impact studies on behaviours and habits
- Developing best practice in the workplace: case studies, how your
institution is meeting the challenge, patron/stakeholder impact, etc.
- Material and chemical substitutions: disposal, use, alternatives,
etc.

Abstracts should be in English and 300–500 words in length. Please include
author’s name, place of employment and contact email address. Participation
from students, recent graduates, new Icon members and professionals in
allied fields is encouraged.

Abstracts should be submitted by email to [email protected]
