Summary: Reporting to the Director of Conservation Services, the Conservator 
performs treatments on Newberry Library collection materials, coordinates 
conservation aspects of special projects and exhibitions, and assists the 
Director with conservation initiatives and other departmental activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Specifies, performs, and documents treatments on Newberry Library collection 
materials. These non-circulating collections include a broad range of 
materials, including books, archival documents, maps, manuscripts on paper and 
parchment, photographs and other materials.
• Works with Assistant Registrar and Exhibition Specialist to coordinate 
conservation and preparation aspects of special projects and exhibitions.
• Works with the Director and Collections Conservator to plan, schedule, survey 
and oversee special project and exhibition treatment workflow.
• Participates in preparation of library materials for exhibition and display.
• Monitors statistics for project workflows.
• Assists Director in the overall work of the department including departmental 
tours and other forms of outreach.
• Assists with disaster preparedness and recovery.
• May participate in library committees.
• Keeps abreast of current developments in conservation, preservation, and 
related fields.
• Performs other tasks or activities needed for the achievement of departmental 
goals.
• May assist in training of volunteers and interns.
