Project Textile Conservator - The Bowes Museum, County Durham

Hours: 37 hours per week plus 25 days annual leave
Fixed term September 2019 - March 2020
Salary: project conservator salary £22,312 pro rata
Reports to: Senior Conservator and Head of Collections

The Bowes Museum is looking for a project conservator to assist with a large 
project in collaboration with Tullie House. Textile conservation at the Bowes 
are working on the conservation and mounting for a new Fashion Gallery that 
will open at Tullie House in February 2020.

We are looking for a qualified textile conservator with minimum 3 years 
experience on the PACR pathway. They should have specific experience with 
costume mounting and exhibition install. They will be keen to work as a team 
and able to share conservation strategies with interns at the Bowes Museum and 
curators at Tullie House. Initially they will be working under the guidance of 
the Senior Conservator but will gradually take on more responsibility.

-              Assist with the completion of the Tullie House Fashion gallery 
including conservation and mounting and liaising with staff at Tullie House.
-              Oversee installation of the Tullie House gallery on site in 
Carlisle during January.
-              Write treatment proposals for agreement with Tullie House and to 
keep up to date with invoices for work carried out.
-              Keep comprehensive records of work carried out including full 
condition and treatment reports.
-              Be responsible for overseeing the two textile conservation 
interns during November - March including contributing towards their quarterly 
reports.
-              During November - March the opportunity will arise to take over 
some of the senior conservator responsibilities as maternity cover.
