ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF CONSERVATION, Conservation Center of the Institute of 
Fine Arts, New York University


The Conservation Center, Institute of Fine Arts, New York University (NYU), 
seeks applications from qualified individuals for a tenure-track appointment at 
the level of Assistant Professor to begin in September 2020. The position 
involves teaching, supervision, and mentoring of graduate-level conservation, 
art history, and archaeology students in the theory and practice of the 
history, technology, and conservation treatment of artifacts and artworks from 
historic, archaeological, cultural, and social contexts. Priority will be 
placed on the candidate's expertise and experience in imaging techniques as 
they are applied to the examination, documentation, treatment, and scholarly 
interpretation of a broad scope of cultural heritage materials. Imaging 
techniques may include, but are not limited to:

best practice conservation documentation; multispectral imaging; computational 
imaging including Reflectance Transformation Imaging; digital radiography; 
confocal microscopy; 3-D modeling; photogrammetry; and animations.


The Institute of Fine Arts is committed to strengthening the ongoing 
collaboration between its various Art History and Archaeology programs with 
those of the Conservation Center, as well as between the Institute and other 
units of NYU.  The successful candidate will therefore demonstrate strong 
interest in cross-disciplinary research and teaching.  While the primary 
appointment is at the Institute of Fine Arts, the appointee will periodically 
teach undergraduate courses at NYU when requested.  Applicants must demonstrate 
excellence or the promise of excellence in teaching and in scholarly research 
and the appointee will be expected to conduct and disseminate research in their 
area. Applicants will hold a terminal conservation degree (MA, MS, or PhD), and 
have experience in applied imaging in the practice of conservation, a record of 
publications in scholarly journals, and sustained professional involvement; 
teaching experience is desirable.  Three to five years of post-graduate
 experience is required.
