Bristol Museums has an exciting opportunity for an experienced frames
conservator to join their Conservation and Documentation team on a fixed-term
basis for 6 months.

Part of Bristol City Council, Bristol Museums is responsible for the care of
collections held across 5 museum sites and Bristol Archives and welcomes
approximately 1 million visitors annually. Based in a well-equipped studio at
Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, the frames conservator will have the opportunity
to work on an exciting international loan project, comprising 63 works being
loaned for an exhibition on the Bristol School
<http://museums.bristol.gov.uk/narratives.php?irn=3065>, opening in May 2020.
34 of these have decorative, gilt frames which require preparation for display.
Works are by artists including Danby, Müller and Sharples.

The successful applicant will identify and prioritise conservation needs and
undertake interventive conservation treatments, materials analysis and research
where necessary. They will assess, plan and schedule frames conservation work
associated with the loan. This will include liaising with transport agents and
colleagues in the conservation department, as well as condition checking,
documenting, conserving and preparing frames for travel.

They will maintain the equipment and materials in the studio, ensure that
health and safety requirements are met and the Museum's security procedures are
adhered to. Experience working in conjunction with multi-disciplinary
conservation colleagues, registrars and external contractors - particularly
transport agents - is essential.

With excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently they
will have a relevant qualification or equivalent in frames conservation and be
able to demonstrate experience of working with similar collections.
Professional accreditation through ICON is desirable.

Interviews will be held on Wednesday the 13th November.

Join us and you will receive a generous rewards package including flexible
working and flexi-time, membership of the Local Government Pension scheme, and
a generous annual leave allowance. In addition you will be working in a
supportive environment where you will have the chance to make Bristol a better
place and contribute to its future.
