The Jack Daniel's Brand Team and Jack Daniel Distillery (Jack Daniel's) in 
Lynchburg, Tennessee are seeking proposals from experienced American Institute  
for Conservation Professional Associates or Fellows with a specialization in 
metals for the conservation treatment of the historic Jack Daniel Distillery 
safe. The Jack Daniel Distillery safe was actively used as early as the 
Mid-Nineteenth Century and has  subsequently been displayed in the historic 
distillery office. The safe traveled for exhibition during the distillery's 
150th Anniversary year in 2016.
 
 Conservation Treatment
 Jack Daniel's seeks to conserve this artifact in its current, authentic 
condition without any substantial alterations or restoration.
  This project will require the following treatments.
  CleaningStabilization of the existing paint and conservation treatment to 
prevent further paint lossStabilization of existing rusted areas and 
conservation treatment to prevent further rusting  Additional areas to be 
assessed for possible conservation treatment include the following.
  Wheels supporting the safeDoor hingesLock  Following conservation treatment, 
Jack Daniel's requires a report documenting the conservation treatments and 
recommendations for the ongoing preservation of this artifact. These 
recommendations should address the following.
  Preservation Environment (Temperature, Humidity, Light Exposure, 
etc.)Exhibition Conditions (Special Housing, Mounting, Traveling and Shipping, 
etc.)Routine CleaningRegular Conservation Treatments  Requirements
 Conservation treatment must be completed in a secure location onsite at the 
distillery. The treatment and report must be completed no later than April 31, 
2020 and total expenses must not exceed $10,000.
 All images of the safe that are created to support and document the 
conservation process will be the property of the Brown-Forman Corporation and 
may not be shared at any time or for any purpose without the expressed written  
permission of Brown-Forman.
 
 Responses
 RFP responses should be submitted to the Brown-Forman Corporate Archivist at 
[email protected] no  later than November 1, 2019 and should include the 
following.
  Itemized quote for project costsPortfolio of similar projects completed by 
the primary conservatorCVs for all project personnel  Initial RFP responses 
should be based upon the attached photographs. After reviewing the initial 
responses to the RFP, Jack Daniel's will invite the candidate(s) under 
consideration to visit the Jack Daniel Distillery for  an onsite assessment of 
the safe. Following that onsite assessment, the candidate(s) will be asked to 
submit an addendum to their response with updated recommendations and costs.
