Message: REGISTRATION NOW OPEN for ICON: Contemporary Practica: Practical
talks about contemporary challenges A one-day cross-specialism conference
focussed on the day-to-day challenges of modern materials. 9.30am 5pm BST31
March 2025, UCL East Marshgate Building, 7 Sidings St, London, E20 2AE Free-35
The one-day event will focus on practical approaches to the challenges
posed by modern materials. The talks range across specialisms from objects, to
paintings and collections care, and include a keynote address by Joanne Hackett
of University of Glasgow's Textile Conservation Centre. What unites this
diverse set of speakers is an emphasis on practice, or bench-based research.
All talks feature techniques, lessons, or materials that conservators have
learned from, or can apply to, their day-to-day work. The formal presentations
will be supported by a programme of lightning talks on current projects to
provide a forum for collaborative problem solving. Please note: In
order to encourage open and frank discussions of potentially sensitive topics,
the conference will not be offered in a hybrid manner on the day. Although a
selection of recordings may be circulated after the proceedings, delegates
wishing to attend the full programme will need to attend in-person at UCL East,
in Stratford, East London. To book tickets and see the updated schedule

Thanks for the link, Helena!
After viewing it, I used it to check for international suppliers and found
several options on AliExpress. For those of you interested, type "needle tip
applicator bottle" in the search field. Several options will show up.

I've been using needle tip applicators (polythene bottle, polythene nozzle or
metal needle tip) for Paraloid B72 for years. They can be refilled many times,
easily cleaned and you have a choice of volumes and nozzle sizes. You can find
them on ebay or art stores like

Subject: Nozzle for Paraloid tubes
Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone had a UK source of nozzles that would fit on a small
paint tube? I'm making my own Paraloid B72 adhesive (thanks to Stephen Koob's
instructions) and have aluminium tubes with a 7mm diameter opening. However I
would like to have an applicator type nozzle on it (like the HMG tubes) to make
it easier to use on site, but can't seem to find any.
Thanks,Caroline

Message:
Thank you for the insights and suggestions on eyeglass storage. We have decided
to use a tray with dividers to nest the glasses. We will avoid using tissue
paper wrapping. Thank you once again for all the suggestions.
Best,
Marcia

Dear List Members,We have a collection of eyeglasses that are currently stored
in a flat file. I would like to move the collection into our compact shelving
and would appreciate recommendations on the best storage practices for
eyeglasses. I am considering using a tray system with archival artifact boxes.
Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions. Thank you! Best,MarciaMarcia

Subject: Last chance to register for the conference 'Journey into the Ageing &
Alterations of Paintings' (JAAP) 3 and 4 April 2025 at Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam -
Final program now available
Message:
The Netherlands Institute for Conservation+Art+Science+ (NICAS) will hold a
two-day conference 'Journey into the Ageing & Alterations of Paintings' (JAAP)
<https://www.nicas-research.nl/event/conference-journey-into-the-ageing-alterations-of-paintingsjaap/>
at the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam on 3 and 4 April 2025.
In recent decades, scientific research has provided new insights into the
fundamental aspects of the composition and ageing processes in paints prompting
a re-evaluation of our perception of paintings and the concepts of conservation.
Scope
This conference will explore how molecular research contributes to deeper
insights into the creation and craftsmanship of paintings and to
decision-making and treatments in both active and preventive conservation of
paintings. It highlights the interdisciplinary nature of conservation science,
showcasing the latest advances in technology and molecular material sciences.
The conference will bring together different expertise, insights and knowledge.
It will serve as a platform to expand our knowledge on paints, to develop new
strategies for conservation treatments, preventive conservation and art
historical interpretation.
Programme
The programme comprises a two-day conference with lectures and poster sessions
with pitches. The social program includes a conference dinner for participants
on 3 April for which a separate ticket needs to be purchased. The venue for the
conference is the Auditorium of the Rijksmuseum. Please see the programme
<https://www.nicas-research.nl/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Definitive-Programme-JAAP.pdf>
for further information.
Registration closes 27 March 2025.
Regular: €325
Student (max. 20): €100
Participants dinner: €30

Dedication to Jaap Boon
The conference is organised in honour of Prof Dr Jaap Boon who passed away on 4
April 2024. Jaap Boon was at the forefront of molecular research on artworks
and played a significant role in the development of the conservation science
field.
Conference Topics
Molecular Insights: The Impact of Molecular Changes on the Perception and
Interpretation of Paintings;
Beyond the Lens: Cutting-Edge Microscopic Imaging Techniques and Advanced
Sample Preparation;
Unravelling the Spectrum: Innovations and Challenges in Mass Spectrometry of
Paint Materials;
Analogous Twins: The Use of Reconstructions in the Study of Paint Alterations;
Shifting Perspectives: The Ageing of Paintings and how it has Informed Painting
Conservation Practice and Decision-making.
JAAP is organised by the Netherlands Institute for Conservation+Art+Science+
