Subject: CACG at Chicago History Museum on May 10
Message: Please join us for the next Chicago Area Conservation Group meeting
at the Chicago History Museum on Saturday May 10. We will tour Dressed in
History: A Costume Collection Retrospective
<https://www.chicagohistory.org/exhibition/dressed-in-history-a-costume-collection-retrospective/>
with Julie Brenner, Assistant Conservator of Costume and Textiles. Following
the tour, participants are invited to gather at nearby Corcoran's Grill & Pub
at 4:30 pm. Snacks will be provided by CACG, and there will be a cash bar.

Please RSVP separately to the tour at CHM and social hour at Corcoran's - we
will need to provide a list to CHM and make a reservation at Corcoran's. More
details are below and on the attached flyer.

Details:

Saturday May 10, 2025

Tour 3:00-4:30 pm at Chicago History Museum
1601 North Clark St at North Ave

Social time 4:30 pm
Corcoran's Grill & Pub <https://corcoransoldtown.com/>
1615 North Wells St

The exhibition features over 70 artifacts, some never previously displayed, an
eclectic mix of men's, women's and children's garments and accessories that
range from Couture designer ensembles to home-sewn items. The exhibition
highlights the long, rich history of fashion, manufacturing and retail that has
distinguished the city's identity for nearly 200 years. Both past and present
curators of the museum's Costume Collection participated in the selection of
items on display.

The variety of costumes, textiles, and accessories presented several different
challenges to the conservation team, for treatment, mounting, and installation.
Join Julie
Benner, Assistant Conservator of Costume and Textiles, for a tour of the
exhibition and discussion of how CHM conservation, collections, and exhibitions
staff approached these challenges to bring some rarely seen collections objects
to the public.

This meeting is open to all – CACG membership is not required to attend. Please
RSVP to [email protected] <[email protected]>

Public parking is located one block north of the Museum at Clark and LaSalle
Streets; enter the lot from Stockton Drive. The cost is $10 with Museum
validation. Metered parking spaces may also be found on nearby streets, and
another parking facility is located near the NW corner of North Avenue at Well
Street.

 Message: Hello and Happy #PreservationWeek2025.

We hope to celebrate with you in person @MIT. See details below.

Theme: Preserving Knowledge
The phrase "Preserve Knowledge" found in the Institute and Libraries' missions
encapsulates the work of the MIT Libraries' Department of Distinctive
Collections <https://libraries.mit.edu/distinctive-collections/> (DDC). The DDC
preserves the Institute's physical and unique collections. We invite you to
join us for this year's ALA Preservation Week Celebration
<https://preservationweek.org/about/> at MIT, where we will highlight the
collaborative and innovative methods we use to preserve and amplify the
Institute's essential core collections. We also focus on how our staff
safeguards the global human transmission of historical technologies related to
bookmaking, printmaking, and historical writing traditions.

The DDC is home to the Aga Khan Documentation Center, the Institute Archives,
the Maihaugen Gallery, Public Services, Rare Books, Records Management, the
