Our studio is busy and well-equipped, providing services for museums, galleries, institutions, art dealers, and private collectors throughout the UK. We specialise in the conservation, mounting, and framing of a broad range of traditional and contemporary artworks as well as archival material, with particular expertise in prints, drawings, and watercolours. The studio is spacious and conveniently located a short bus journey and/or drive from Harrogate, a vibrant spa town in North Yorkshire with excellent connections to Leeds and York, and close to the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks. Job Title Paper Conservator Hours 9am to 5.00pm, Mon to Fri Reporting to Senior Paper Conservator Location Paper conservation studio at The Chapel, Markington Hall; occasionally, on-site at museums, galleries and historic properties. Candidate should be prepared to work on-site for occasional periods or two or more days with overnight accommodation provided. Salary £30,389 (full-time) Holiday 21 days p.a. (pro rata) plus 8 bank holidays Training A relevant postgraduate, or equivalent level, conservation qualification and, ideally, at least 2 years' relevant experience. Overall Objective · To assist with and undertake conservation / restoration treatments for works of art and archives on paper Main activities · Practical conservation treatments for Western and Eastern art including watercolours, prints and drawings, folding screens, scrolls, archival material, photographic material and vellum. The application review process will begin May 13, 2026. Fellows in these 2-year positions contribute to generating new resources and professional development opportunities that help encourage and enable more institutions to implement sustainable preservation practices. For this Fellowship, we are seeking applications from candidates with an educational background in mechanical engineering, building physics, data science, preservation science, or related field. Applicants must also demonstrate an interest in preservation science and cultural heritage preservation.
