Wow, I’m surprised at the negativity. I think it’s a lovely and creative idea and I can picture what you’re talking about as being fun, safe, and community-building. I would think that joyfully moving together, even while not touching, would go a long way toward keeping dance communities intact for the duration. We’ve been doing croquet this summer in mixed family groups - folks not all in the same pod - and it’s been a nice way to play together outside in a spread-out way. Lots of high-fiving with mallets.
I am trying to picture calling to a spread out band’s music and all that spacing is making me think that this might be a situation where colored arm bands (or colored masks?) could come in handy, to help people keep track of who their partner is, or which role they’re playing. With the heavy breathing involved in the aerobic moves you imagine, I can see that the masks would be important, even outside. There obviously wouldn’t be shared weight, but twirling vs spinning, and moving through formations to a live band would be fun. Please share a video if you do it! > On Jul 20, 2020, at 3:08 AM, Robert Livingston via Contra Callers > <[email protected]> wrote: > > Circles, square sets and contradance - you need to take hands.
