the issue I thought of with a rope or scarf-type-thing is you are still going to hold something that someone else held. Wouldn't it be cool if we could devise some sort of a stick with a hook on the end, where each person could keep their own for the duration of the dance? so you would hook your stick onto someone else's - that way everyone keeps distance and everyone holds their own stick AND you get to enjoy centripetal force!! Was trying to think if there was a tool or a kid's toy that was shaped like this...nothing has come to mind yet. Kat in Halifax NS
I don't think it's safe yet, but for "someday,"
as a transitional thing as we ease back in, I have been pondering
the scene from Fiddler on the Roof, where the old Rabbi
whips out his little handkerchief so he can dance with a woman
without touching her, per the prevailing culture of the time. I
have this flimsy towel I got at the gym -- it's smaller and
thinner than a regular bath towel, but bigger than a hand towel.
I wonder if it would work to have two people hang onto the ends to
create the centripetal force to swing. But it still wouldn't be 6
feet of distance. So then I start wondering about using ropes or
tie-down straps, with loops on the ends, so you could hold on
without getting rope burns. But even if it worked, a 6-foot swing
radius PER couple feels pretty difficult, logistically. You'd
need a football field, and still wouldn't be able to accommodate
very many couples. (There's a little math problem for your kids
for their free time).
Not sure anyone will take this anywhere, but I've wondered about it as I watch zoom videos of people swinging with ghosts in their backyards. Diane On 7/20/2020 3:08 AM, Robert Livingston
