The current smeserver-adv-samba package provides domain membership with an NT4
type domain. User auth is handled at the domain level by the smbd daemon and
local file auth with the winbindd daemon. Specifically noteworthy is that
winbindd successfully pulls user account information from a NT4 domain
controller to the SME Server domain member machine.
However, when joining a Win Active Directory domain (Win2003 Server), SME
Server is able to join the domain, but winbindd cannot pull user account
information from the Win AD domain.
More than likely, Kerberos support will need to be added to smeserver-adv-samba
to allow winbindd and smbd to fully communicate with the Win AD domain
controller.
This bug report will track the effort to verify the need for kerberos and if
truly needed the effort to integrate kerberos with smeserver-adv-samba.
