the lat- tools use the configuration databases when reading information.  The
various 'create' or 'change' options create or update the appropriate e-smith
db, then use e-smith 'event' syntax to make the actual changes.

As long as SME8 still stores all of the config data in db entries, and assuming
that the e-smith 'events' have been updated to support LDAP, the lat- tools
should still work.

The biggest potential problem I see is if SME8 has introduced any new
standard/required fields in the dbs, as the fields used for each db are
hard-coded in the lat- tools.
