Agree in general, but next to the default defined services in the contrib,
there are other services and their versions. All bringing their own log file
format.
For instance, Asterisk has multiple major and associated minor versions, all
bringing their own format. Looking/creating for the correct fail2ban file is a
hell. To me, fail2ban has never worked, not even with the default definitions.
Why, I have NO clue.
Hence my suggestion we simply create pages with definitions/rules that WORK on
a per service and version (major/minor).
